Zomg! She lives!

It’s busy here. I should update more, but I find myself updating my art blog instead of my personal one. Is this a sign?

On the subject of work.

Guess what? I was just offered the job of being a colourist for another full-length Graphic Novel with the same company(!). They did say that they understood if I was a bit busy with my current one, but thought they’d ask me anyway since the creators of that particular Graphic Novel had seen my blog and expressed interest in having me paint for them.

At the moment, I’m in a bit of a sort of shock-pause phase. As much as I’d love to give it a go, I know I couldn’t take on two novels at the same time. So I’ve just asked them when this project is supposed to start.

Life is very good here!

Went to London the other day. Got reminded I need to go back to raid the museums!
Had bunch of fun with Sami, Marie and Ellen. It was worth the 6 hour busride. When I came back home to Bristol in the middle of the night and grabbed a taxi home, I had a compelling conversation with the driver who saw that I was absolutely shattered. We talked about working from home and about coffee.

Love London. The passing characters are just to die for.

Only bad news I have to report is the fact that we had some damp coming through in our kitchen by a window. Noticed it after some really heavy rainfall. Dishwasher is also broken, so we have to actually wash our dishes by hand, What a shocker!

Anyway! Sweden in 8 days…!

Drawing, aching, gaming, eating. Pondering existance.

Have signed the paper copies of the publishing contract and sent them back by post today!

Also. I got another mention in this weeks blog:
The Red Eye

It’s all very very exciting.
I have my lightbox. I have sent off my contract…
Now I’m just waiting for the wrist supports and then I think I’m off..!!

Wrists have been rather agonizing lately. I think it’s been a combination of drawing, painting, gaming and scratching my bum. Most worringly, they’ve started making little crackling noises and go stiff now and then. I tried having a little break, but got fidgety and instantly bored. Think I’m properly obsessed or something….

In other news.
Going to take up squash with Tom in the evenings. Although I admit I’m slightly nervous, seeing as Tom has actually sent a person to hospital before whilst playing that game. :D

Going to try to get to London this week to meet up with Swedish friends. Maybe even El is free? MAYBE? :O Maybe I can even visit the hunterian museum and draw mutilated bodies again? *sighs happily* London.

So! All in all. Stuff is good, but I’m straining my arms. Need to learn restraint.

Heatwarnings kill artists. :(

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

There’s been a heatwave going over the UK for the past 3 days or so. I’ve been almost completely out of action for that period of time, struggling to do anything other than melt in front of my computer. To avoid being completely and utterly useless I decided to order a few things that I now find myself desperately needing for my job.

First. An A3 lightbox. Something that is invaluable if you’re doing roughs of scenes and then need to redraw the page. Lightboxes, I’ve found, are comic artists best friend. If not best, then at the very least a very very close one :P

Second. Two occupational wrist supports. I’m still waiting for these to arrive. Will take photos of them when they do! And also review what they feel like since other artists are interested.

So yes! Not much to report really. I’ve been feeling sick from the heat and only got about 3 hours sleep last night. Because there’s no air-con in this house whatsoever, it turns into a sauna very quickly, even though the temperature outside may only be around 25 degrees.

Ah! Before I forget. I have now also been introduced on the writers blog as the artist for the Graphic Novel, Butterflies and Moths. Click me!

It’s all very exciting, if a bit scary at times.

I’m slightly poor though. Buying art supplies has been draining my little Uni stash… Hopefully I will last the summer.
