I am drawing and drawing. To keep up to date with that, simply check out my art blog.
Jenspiration Now!

I have now also been featured on the Red Eye blog, where I’ve been given an introduction as one of the new artists working with the publishers.

The Red Eye

Haha, they chose the images where I mistakenly gave the two characters SAGGY BOOBS XD
How embarrassing! I hope they won’t notice! I guess I learn about painting anatomy the hard way.

Needless to say, I’m really chuffed. Everything they’ve said is so nice. She even mentioned the fact that I had no proper portfolio and not even a business card. I had to write my details on a scrap bit of paper… Slightly embarrassing…

But I’m on board now..! It’s happening!

These past few days I’ve been drawing and gaming and sometimes dragged out to be social in between. I’m very happy to have the friends I’ve got here. They understand my obsession/passion for what I do, but they also still drag me outside now and then so I don’t become a total recluse (Been to the cinema and also been playing Battlestar Galactica the boardgame!).

In pooier news. I am starting to get the first tingling feelings of repetitive strain disorder in my wrists. I try to take breaks and also hold the pencil right etc, but I think I’m going to have to prevent any further damage by reading up on it a bit more…

Apparently eating oily food (like omega 3 stuff) is good for the joints and will help. Not sure if this is true, but it sounds plausible.

I also work on trying to not move my wrist, but moving my entire arm. It’s a lot of thinking though, and I tend to be in ‘draw-mode’ where I simply don’t think about posture or eating lots of salmon.

All in all, things are going very well over here. We’ve settled in to our new place. Still have some stuff to be taken to the junk yard, but otherwise it’s pretty much unpacked and finished. I’m still sometimes pinching myself to see if I’m dreaming. Then I realize I’ve actually managed to get a contract before graduating, and I let out a little squeal in delight! Who knows where this might lead to! I’ve been invited to the Birmingham Comic Convention in October where I will be offered a ‘pro-pass’ and a space at the publishers table. Hopefully this won’t clash with the Women in Comics convention in Cambridge that’s also going on in October this year. I am also invited to a Women reading Graphic Novels group in London.

Got the shivers now. I love England.

And so, I accept!

I have officially accepted the contract and will have it sent to me by post to be signed off.

After that I have my first job as a Graphic Novel artist.

Holy. Crap.

Excuse me while I go wet myself in a corner.

HOLY CRAP.

I’VE BEEN OFFERED A CONTRACT FOR THREE GRAPHIC NOVELS.

O_O

The contract will be sent to me soon and I will have Tom scrutinize it to make sure everything’s fine…
If it is…

I will have my very first job as a graphic novel artist.

And I will get published.

IT’S ALIVE!

Hello darlings!

Sorry for the long silence.
It’s been a bit mental over here.

Basically, I’ve handed in my deadline stuff, done the presentation, received by grades for my essay and my module, had a down-time period where I’ve done nothing but relax and play games, been to garden parties, street parties etc.

Grades wise, I haven’t done as well this year as I did last year with my illustration. Trying not to be too disappointed, since grades shouldn’t matter. It’s what you learn. But I still get really down whenever I think about how I’ve done. To be fair, it’s made me realize where my strengths and weaknesses are, and I don’t think I deserved a first for the projects I’ve done so far.

Anyway! After Uni was done, I just spent about two weeks or something doing NOTHING but gaming and drawing whatever I felt like. It was brilliant. I got ever so slightly addicted to the roleplaying server for Neverwinter nights and love the community on it.

Now, I have to think about how I’ll survive over the summer. Made up a work-schedule plan which should hopefully get me kick started again.

Still always very uncertain about my own abilities. Especially when I hang out with people who are stupidly talented. I guess it’s called sketch-envy.

Work work work. Deadline on Wednesday.

Haven’t even unpacked properly yet. Can’t find the budgie cleaning supplies in the boxes. It’s all a bit of a mess at the moment.

But at least I’ve got my drawing board!
