Still no internet, but I’m still alive.

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

Yarr. High speed life right now. I have my deadline in 4 days and need to do so much…

I could be writing a lot about what’s going on and posting images of my project, but because of lack of internet at home, I’m afraid I actually can’t do that! :P

So this is just an entry to show that I’m alive. Woooo. How exciting!

JENNIE HAS NO INTERNET! and so much has happened!

Gasp! Oh noes!

Yes, it is true! Jennie has no internet and will not have said internet for at least 2 weeks. So I can not be on MSN, gmail, facebook etc etc unless I am at University and have time to spare… Which doesn’t happen often.

Anyway! A quick update while I’m waiting for my Uni tutorial this morning.

We moved in to our new house. It took about 7 hours of constant work with 7 people! Exhausting stuff, but good fun. Thank you all who were involved! Much love from Jen and Tom!

After the moving in, we spent about 4 days unpacking everything. I will be sure to take photos and post them here soon. I actually have a proper working space!

What else has happened?

We got a friend for Chester! His name is Ruffles and he is green. I still keep them separated to let them get used to eachother. Chester seems to want to show his dominance a bit too much still, so Ruffles might have to get a bit bigger before we have them together overnight.

Oh!

And yesterday I was properly SHOT UP for the first time! Me, Tom and a bunch of friends went out paintballing in the woods for 5 hours! The paint balling company was very professional and had lots of cool areas in the woods with different objectives. For example, there was “Capture the flag” and “protect the vehicles from an onslaught” “Get people into a helicopter” “Capture a village” And so on! Absolutely fantabulastic! :D

I have taken pictures of my bruises. My legs look horrid. I got shot in the hand twice which hurts like hell, AND for some reason I kept on getting shot in the butt by stray bullets as I went off the arena. :P

In one game, I was sneaking on the edge of the field with Tom towards the helicopter when we suddenly got found out and were pinned down behind a bunch of logs. Tom got shot in the foot and had to leave the field, leaving ME alone in enemy territory with at least two guys shooting at me from different directions! I tried to fend them off, but in the end I was shot in the knee and gave off a little “Squeeee!”. The guy who shot me actually apologized! :P I don’t know why. Sheesh! We’re supposed to shoot eachother!

All in all, it was amazingly fun, even though it really really hurts and I can hardly walk today. The guns were also proper heavy guns. Not some plastic that I expected.

Whew. Yes. Today is tutorial day. After that I have my deadline early next week, so this week will be SOLID work. I probably won’t be writing much here during that time.

Love to you all! Hopefully I get internet at home soon!

Sketch dump.

Throwing in some sketches of the museum and some lifedrawing that was done today. More experimentation with colour. :P

Imagination as a comfort zone.

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

I had my second tutorial yesterday and voiced my concern over drawing from photos. I’ve always had this idea in my head that drawing from photographs is cheating because the image already exists, so what’s the point? But I was surprised to hear from one my classmates that “I would think that imagining things would be cheating when you’re supposed to record a space that exists.” To be honest, I’d never seen it from that angle before, but of course it makes sense.

I’ve now been asked to remain analytical and record what I see and not throw in imaginary things in there as well since that wouldn’t do the place justice.

It’s very nice to hear something like that since I’ve been very confused as to how to record this incredible location. In the end, I’m simply going to show you what’s there.

Updated homepage!

www.jenniegyllblad.com

Added my bookbinding to the art section (old images I’ve already shown off here earlier, I think..)

Also updated my commissions page.

Currently pondering whether to start scanning the Museum work I’ve got so far, or if I should wait until the project is over and upload everything in one big bunch….

Will think about that while packing. Moving next weekend! Woooooo! Can’t wait! Just can’t wait! No more drunkies outside our window! No more construction work hammering on at 7am!

Ah heaven awaits.

Today is packing day!

Yesterday was great. Museum as usual with much random sketching being done. I need to actually start refining some of it I think. Drawing quickly from life looks incredibly messy. At least for me. Anywayyy!

Today is packing day. And gaming day. Going to be nice to relax a bit.

Pssst. All gamers. I’m guessing you already know of:
Zero Punctuation

Hilarious fellah.

Beware of paint!

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Inspired by Mithi’s blog, I’ve decided to reluctantly put my acrylic paintings online. We are currently having lifedrawing classes with a fantastic lady called Chris Molan who is teaching us how to paint. She goes through the very basics and builds our confidence up.

If you know me, you probably already know that I normally won’t touch opaque paint with a twelve foot pole, but I decided to swallow my fears and actually try it out. So here you go. Below is my progress after each class. The two first images are painted at home without tutoring and suck so bad I want to grill them, but hey, I’m learning! After those two images, each painting has been done in class with a model.

Sorry for the rubbish photos.

I’m going to bite my lip and actually admit that I’m having fun. I’m not particularly good, but I’m learning lots about paint, colour and tones. It’s very useful.

Anyway. That’s that. Time to get ready to go to the Museum.
